Chocolate Factories Use Child Labor
Chocolate- a food made out of cocoa beans; usually turned into food that is enjoyed by many. Have you ever wondered what really happens where they make chocolate? Many companies like Hershey, use child labor inside of there factories. The cocoa bean comes from Africa, which usually get farmed by children. Later on, you will learn why companies hire children to do this.
The companies think that hiring children to do the job is easier, and cheaper. In an article i was reading, it says, "Today, cocoa farmers barely make a living selling the beans and often resort to the use of child labor in order to keep their prices competitive." I think that they should not be hiring kids my age to make chocolate. Halloween is the time of year when Hershey's makes the most money the whole year. While we are trick or treating, other kids are being forced to work to make the chocolate we are eating.
