Old/Ancient Slavery

1.     1.  Slavery started in ancient Mesopotamian societies, but became popular in ancient European societies.
   2.Slavery was important in medieval Ghana, Mali, and Songhai empires; they were traded for gold and other necessities in the African kingdoms.
    3.  The first African slaves were brought to America in 1619 to help with the crops.

Modern Day Slavery

    4.  27 Million people are enslaved today.
     5.   Slavery today occurs mostly in Africa and India
    6. The average cost of a human slave is 90$ for manual labor.
     7.  14.500-17,500 people are trafficked into the U.S per year to do manual labor or be personal slaves and act as servants.

     8. The first anti-slavery society was founded in 1775.
    9. Slavery is the foundation of racism.
      10. Slavery changed the way people today act towards people of different races.
